Overview & Background
A Companion App for Family Caregivers in Indonesia
😟 “I'm overwhelmed with caregiving, work, and life. I just need something to help me breathe…”
😌 “Oh… this Ramah app feels like someone’s finally thinking about me.”
💜 “I feel less alone, and now I know what to do next. Terima kasih, Ramah.”
Ramah is designed for unsung heroes—young adult caregivers (aged 20–40) juggling elderly care, full-time jobs, and their own mental health. The app provides emotional support, daily health monitoring, medication reminders, and access to telehealth services—all in a calm, focused interface tailored for caregivers.

Discovery
Pain Points
Emotional fatigue often ignored by caregivers.
Existing platforms focus only on patients.
Lack of peer support communities.
Benchmark: Calm, RuangGuru, Headspace.
Literature: Caregiver mental load, self-reflection habits, peer network benefits.

Goals
Indonesia’s healthcare system doesn’t provide enough integrated support for family caregivers. Most tools are fragmented, clinical, or not emotionally aware. Caregivers—especially young adults—are under-recognized and underserved.
Caregivers feel emotionally drained, mentally overwhelmed, and unsupported. They struggle with scheduling medication, tracking moods, and knowing when to ask for help.
"I love my family, but this feels like I’m drowning alone." — user quote
How might we help family caregivers manage their responsibilities with less stress—while maintaining their own emotional well-being?
Our vision was to create a "kind, helpful companion"—not just a tool. Ramah’s tone and flow needed to feel like breathing room, not another app that do these:
User Goal: Get emotional validation and guided self-care.
Product Goal: Create a safe, accessible, mobile-first app.
Business Goal: Prevent caregiver burnout, promote early care-seeking.
How might we create a mental health tool that supports not just patients but their caregivers too?

Define
Mapped pain points with severity scoring.
Prioritized features: private journaling, emotion check-ins, peer circles.

Define Problem & Solution
Prioritized based on empathy mapping:
Problem: Emotional neglect in support roles.
Solution: Private reflection, supportive journaling, peer connection.
I used some method to visualize the idea:
Emotional journey mapped: stress → reflect → track → share → ease.
Wireframes built around accessibility and calm UI.
Design system used warm tones and rounded elements.
Fully prototyped on Figma.

Finalize
Peer review showed strong trust-building through visual tone.
Testing revealed journaling flow reduced user overwhelm.
Adjusted features to better reflect caregiver lifestyles.

Outcomes
Praised during mental health demo day for empathy-first design.
Users
“This finally feels like someone understands us.”
Key Learnings
Design must match emotional nuance.
Gained validation from potential users.
Created a replicable model for future caregiver-centered tools.
Next: Integrate therapist-led prompts and deeper analytics.
Next
Add community match, emotion insights, live coach support.
